Many of our clients  have expressed a keen interest in participating in the design and construction of their timber frames. To encourage these interests, we have come up with a method that allows various degrees of participation based on individual client abilities and interests. In addition, the Do-it-yourself approach can result in significant savings.

Here are some do-it-yourself options available to you as our customer:

• Build one of our standard frames on our premises
• Build a custom frame on our premises
• Take our course, order your materials from us and build it in your own location
• Build some of your components and order the remaining components from us

If you decide to build your frame on our premises, this is the basic approach: 

You select one of our standard plans or we design a custom frame. We order the timbers from a local mill and provide you with full set of plans and instructions.

Each project is provided with a workstation and the use of all our tools as well as ongoing instruction and assistance. You actually cut your own frame and learn a skill that you can use whenever you wish. You can undertake this project by yourself or even better with a partner. This is an ideal project for a husband/wife team or those that have retired and want to build a retirement home or a cottage.

Someone will always be there to help answer questions and assist with the frame.

Near the end of your project we will help you trial fit your timber frame and demonstrate raising techniques. You can take your timber frame with a trailer or we can deliver it for you for a nominal fee.
